Abstract

This assignment is an attempt at improving the enlightenment level on the definition which is provided for the term “policymaking” during the administration of justice. It will be required that the assignment presents a relevant and precise definition of the term in the context of the department which deals with criminal justice as a subsection of the whole administration of justice. Further analysis will also be conducted to improve the comprehension of the definition at hand altogether.

It should be noted that in writing this assignment, I will use a secondary form of resource material since it is easily available and cheap to obtain altogether. Policymaking refers to a strategic process which involves the projection of the future implications, identification of preferred results from a given set of options, creation of programs or course of actions which will lead to a particular favorable result and creation of an effective and efficient system that will ensure formulated policies are adhered to and embraced by all (Meehan, 1990).

It should be noted that policymaking comprises of a series of subsequent processes which are pursued the purpose of preparing these policies. It should also be noted that policymaking on the administration of criminal justice concerns are allowed to take place at the various stages within the society so that they are either implemented to assisting the local community with there watch programs as well as in the generation of different approaches to be used at the national level after there formulation through debate in Congress.

In order to understand the criteria upon which these formulated policies are justified, there are three scenarios meant to deepen this understanding. These three scenarios are called “ideological”, “empirical” and “ethical” (Meehan, 1990). It is stipulated that policies which have been prepared on ideological opinions are desirable due to the fact that they are relegated to fit a given set of beliefs, for example, those based on religious belief or practices in that matter. Policies formulated on empirical opinions are based on science and research so that the likely outcome of the policy is founded on the existing knowledge which has been confirmed on scientific research. Policies that are based on ethical opinions stipulate the need for the use of common sense and advocate for the common rule of “do unto others what you want them to do unto you” (Meehan, 1990).

All in all, policies are formulated on different grounds but then there major functioning relies upon the ability and the willingness on those which are expected to follow and adhere to them without question or doubt in that matter.
